Structural Damage at GHESKIO

A call from Dr. Pape two days ago indicated that "a structural engineer will be worth more than a dozen doctors at this time. We need to know if we can safely access and utilize the GHESKIO buildings that survived the earthquake." Today, a structural engineering professor from Cornell University, Dr. Ken Hover, was dispatched to Port-au-Prince. Dr. Hover is one of the world's experts in concrete construction. Once in Port-au-Prince, he will assess the structural damage to buildings at GHESKIO and other affected areas in the city. Dr. Hover will be accompanied by a Haitian medical resident from New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical College, Dr. David Michel. The team will travel to GHESKIO via the Dominican Republic, assisted by Elizabeth Fox, a recent Cornell graduate and GHESKIO earthquake survivor.
