Weill Cornell GHESKIO Doctors Publish on Community Based Intervention for Cardiovascular Disease in Haiti

The Center celebrates Drs. Reichling St Sauveur and Rodney Sufra on their recent first-author publication, "Effectiveness of community-based hypertension management on hypertension in the urban slums of Haiti: A mixed methods study". Their community-based intervention decreased systolic blood pressure by 13 mmHg more than matched controls. Their findings are particularly significant for Haiti, where cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death and hypertension is the most common risk factor, as this study fills a research gap by implementing and proving the efficacy of a community-based treatment model in an urban slum setting.
