The National Institutes of Health Highlights GHESKIO

The National Institutes of Health, Fogarty International Center, highlighted the generations of mentorship at GHESKIO that has had great impacts on the health of Haiti in the January/February 2018 ‘Global Health Matters’ newsletter.

GHESKIO, The Haitian Group for the Study of Kaposi’s Sarcoma and Opportunistic Infections, was shaped from a collaboration between Dr. Warren Johnson of Weill Cornell Medical College and his mentee Dr. Jean Pape. Today, GHESKIO is a globally renowned research organization that has trained generations of scientists that have greatly impacted global health.

Dr. Pape credits Fogarty to aiding GHESKIO’s success. Drs. Johnson and Pape have mentored more than 100 Haitian scientists through Fogarty programs, resulting in innovative research that has changed global health practices.
