Breaking ground on the Family Nutrition Center at GHESKIO
GHESKIO is expanding! With generous support from the M.A.C. AIDS Fund, GHESKIO is constructing a new Family Nutrition Center on the main campus in Port-au-Prince.
The Family Nutrition Center will be a direct reflection of GHESKIO’s commitment to providing comprehensive health care for its patients. After the 2010 earthquake, in addition to essential clinical care, GHESKIO placed an emphasis on providing a range of social services for patients and addressing the development needs for the communities it serves. GHESKIO provides access to clean water and sanitation, reproductive health services, food, primary education, vocational training and consistent follow-up care and case management. The Nutrition Center will now offer mothers and families a safe, nurturing space to gather, share experiences about motherhood and learn about providing the proper nutrition for their newborns and children. Women will be trained in operating high efficiency stoves, best cooking practices and optimal ways to provide nutrition that will ensure the healthy development of their children and families. The center will house 6 main clinics: Pediatric Clinic, Ob/GYN Clinic, Adolescent Clinic, Pharmacy-Phlebotomy, Community Nutrition, and Clinic Nutrition.
