The GHESKIO Vocational School is Open for Students

Students at the newly opened Ecole Vocationelle GHESKIO (GHESKIO Vocational School) will train for 6 months in construction trades.

The Ecole Vocationnelle GHESKIO (GHESKIO Vocational School) has enrolled its first class of 200 trainees from tent cities in Port au Prince. One of GHESKIO's goals for building back a stronger, healthier community in the wake of the January 2010 earthquake has been to support young adults who are unemployed. At least 65% of people in GHESKIO's refugee camp have no income. A workforce development program has been successfully launched at GHESKIO with support from the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. The goal of the program is to train young adults in trades, particularly construction, for future job placement. In addition, GHESKIO has started a microfinance and small business training program for women. In this initial phase 200 youth and young adults will enter a 6 month long training term.
