In 2019, Dr. Vanessa Rouzier joined the Weill Cornell Medicine Faculty at the Center for Global Health. Dr. Rouzier received her MD from McGill University and completed fellowship training in pediatric infectious diseases at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.  Dr. Rouzier then returned to her native, Haiti as Chief of Pediatrics at GHESKIO, the Center for Global Health’s long-term collaborator, led by Weill Cornell Professor of Medicine, Dr. Jean William Pape. Six months following her return, Haiti was hit by the disastrous 2010 earthquake, and Dr. Rouzier quickly stepped to forefront, directing GHESKIO’s field hospital and providing care to thousands of patients. Nine months later, Haiti was hit by the largest cholera outbreak in modern history with nearly one million people affected. Dr. Rouzier established a collaboration with the Haitian Ministry of Health and Partners in Health to address the cholera epidemic. Dr. Rouzier’s efforts in cholera vaccination in Port-au-Prince (50,000 people vaccinated, with 97% documented protection rates) were so significant that it prompted the World Health Organization to included cholera vaccination as part of its emergency prevention response to cholera outbreaks. The number of people vaccinated by Dr. Rouzier and her team has now climbed to over 2 million in Haiti.

Dr. Rouzier’s research focuses on developing structural and biomedical interventions to improve health outcomes among women, children, and adolescents living with HIV in Haiti and other resource-limited settings. She has been the study coordinator for a several NIAID International Maternal, Pediatric, and Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Network (IMPAACT) trials. She also conducts research to improve diagnosis and treatment for pediatric tuberculosis and multi-drug resistant tuberculosis. The Center is thrilled to welcome Dr. Rouzier.
