Dr. Robert Peck is a Recipient of the 2019 Excellence in Medicine Awards

Dr. Robert Peck was awarded the Dr. Nathan Davis International Award in Medicine, one of the 2019 American Medical Association Foundation Excellence in Medicine Awards. This award honors recipients for their “outstanding international service in the areas of medical practice, medical education, and medical research.”

Dr. Peck is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine and member of the Center for Global Health. His research focuses on the epidemiology of HIV-related cardiovascular disease in Africa, in addition to interventions for the prevention and treatment of hypertension.

A central part of Dr. Peck’s mission is the training of future generations of physician-scientist, clinicians, and educators. He is the Director of the Weill Bugando Training Program, which has graduated 1,000 physicians since the first class of 12 was graduated in 2018. In addition, he has mentored numerous Tanzanian residents who have received Master’s degrees, MD-PhD candidates, and implementation science fellows.

Dr. Peck has successfully trained and supported the next generation of Tanzanian and US Global Health leaders and has created a platform for self-sustaining research programs and clinical knowledge transfer.
