The Center for Global Health Faculty Respond to the COVID-19 Pandemic in New York, Haiti, and Tanzania

The Center for Global Health faculty are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City, Haiti, and Tanzania and our top priority is providing clinical care to patients and their families. In New York, eight of our faculty and staff are working in the hospital treating patients and in the clinical laboratory conducting testing for COVID-19.  New York City is the epicenter of the epidemic in the United States, and they are on the frontlines providing urgent clinical care.  At GHESKIO in Haiti, Drs. Bill Pape and Vanessa Rouzier are working with the Ministry of Health to respond to the new COVID-19 cases detected in Port-au-Prince and throughout Haiti. The GHESKIO laboratory is establishing capacity for COVID-19 testing and the GHESKIO hospitals are preparing to provide in-patient care. In Tanzania, Dr. Rob Peck is assisting the Bugando Medical Center in preparations to  care for patients presenting with COVID-19. This is under the leadership and direction of the Tanzanian Ministry of Health. Bugando is the referral hospital for 15 million residents in the Lake District of Tanzania and will be a critical resource for patients in the coming weeks.

Our faculty are also working with the local teams to  maintain other essential clinical services in Haiti and Tanzania where resources are chronically limited. We are expending all efforts to support our local partners and will be working alongside them in the coming weeks to mitigate the impact of COVID-19.

We will continue to provide updates on our faculty’s efforts to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Featured News section of the Center’s webpage.
