Celebrating NIH Fogarty Trainee, Dr. Nadalette Alcenat’s MPH Graduation
We are proud to celebrate Dr. Nadalette Alcenat, an NIH Fogarty trainee, on her recent graduation from the Masters of Public Health (MPH) program at Université Quisqueya in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Dr. Alcenat, a dedicated pediatrician, has served patients at GHESKIO Centers since 2017, providing care to some of Haiti’s most vulnerable children and families. Throughout years marked by persistent political instability, economic hardship, and disruptions to healthcare delivery in Haiti, she has remained steadfast in her commitment to patient care while simultaneously pursuing advanced research training through the Fogarty fellowship.
In her MPH thesis, titled “Mothers Clubs: Reducing HIV Transmission and Improving Growth Outcomes among HIV-Exposed Infants in Haiti,” Dr. Alcenat evaluated an innovative cohort model of prenatal care for pregnant women living with HIV. The program combines group-based support with enhanced nutritional assistance during pregnancy. Her research demonstrated remarkable outcomes in infant survival and growth, highlighting the promise of integrated health facility and community-based interventions for families affected by HIV.
Dr. Alcenat’s work exemplifies the mission of Weill Cornell's Center for Global Health: building research capacity among local leaders who are deeply committed to improving health outcomes in their communities. We congratulate her on this important milestone and look forward to the continued impact of her work in Haiti.
