2013 Emory Global Health Case Competition
On March 22-23, a team from Cornell competed in the Emory Global Health Case Competition in Atlanta. The Cornell team was composed of MD-PhD student Nicole Ramsey, fourth-year medical student Neal Parikh, first-year medical student Milna Rufin, and undergraduate students Laura Stokes and Esther Hoffman. This annual competition brings together multidisciplinary teams from 24 different colleges across the United States, Canada, and Mexico to develop innovative solutions for 21st century global health issues. The 2013 case focused on China’s foreign investment strategy with respect to sanitation. Teams were assigned the difficult task of recommending specific sanitation programs and countries to invest in during the years 2020-2025, keeping in mind the likelihood of success of their proposed sanitation interventions and the economic benefits China would receive for its investments. This was the third year Cornell has participated in this event. The students found it to be an excellent challenge and a great way to meet other students also interested in global health.
