Cancer Prevention in Global Health

Dr. Cynthia Riviere – WCMC-GHESKIO and Dr. Arash Rafii Tabrizi – WCMC-Qatar are co-authors on a paper on cervical cancer in Haiti. They provide on-going cervical cancer screening and clinical care to women at the GHESKIO Health Clinic in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Rates of cervical cancer disproportionately affect women in the Caribbean, Latin American and Africa. NYPH/WCMC/WCMC-Q global health investigators and cancer specialists recently published a report in the Cancer Prevention Research journal discussing the potential benefits of aspirin in cervical cancer prevention for HIV-infected women. This research has specific importance for improving the lives of women in Haiti, which has the highest reported incidence of cervical cancer in the world paired with high HIV infection rates. An article in the New York Times recently discussed this study.
